A premium finish begins with the material itself. Rather than simply creating a metal-like appearance, TRULY uses a genuine aluminum faceplate to preserv  the visual character, cool touch, and natural reflection associated with real metal.

Before anodizing, the aluminum surface is brushed in a controlled direction. This process creates the fine linear grain visible across the faceplate and gives the surface a more defined, authentic metallic texture.

What Is Anodizing?

Anodizing is an electrochemical surface process that forms a controlled oxide layer from the aluminum itself. Unlike an ordinary coating that sits above the material, the anodized layer becomes integrated with the aluminum surface.

1. What is anodized aluminum?

Anodized aluminum is aluminum that has undergone an electrochemical surface process to form a controlled aluminum oxide layer. Unlike ordinary paint or coating, this layer is developed from the aluminum surface itself. It can then be colored and sealed to create a refined, durable metallic finish.

Painted aluminum uses an external coating applied above the metal surface. Anodizing works differently by forming an oxide layer from the aluminum itself. This allows the underlying metallic character and brushed texture to remain more visible while creating a more integrated color finish.

Anodized aluminum is not completely scratch-proof. Its oxide layer is harder than untreated aluminum and can provide improved resistance to everyday surface wear, but sharp objects, heavy impacts, or abrasive cleaning may still leave marks. Actual performance also depends on the aluminum alloy, anodized layer, sealing, and conditions of use.

Anodizing is not an external paint layer, so it does not behave in the same way as ordinary surface paint. The oxide layer is formed from and bonded with the aluminum surface rather than applied as a separate coating. However, severe impact or abrasion can still damage the surface or expose the aluminum underneath.

Anodized color is designed to provide a stable metallic finish, but long-term color performance can vary according to the dye, sealing quality, exposure to strong ultraviolet light, chemicals, heat, and everyday use. TRULY manages brushing, color development, sealing, and approved color references as part of the finishing process.

Anodized color can be influenced by the aluminum alloy, surface preparation, brushing direction, anodizing conditions, color formulation, sealing, and even the way light reflects across the metal grain. For this reason, physical master samples and batch review are important for maintaining an intended color direction.

Selected TRULY product lines feature brushed and anodized aluminum surfaces, including the 837A Pro Metal Series and 837A Mini Series. Although their sizes and intended uses are different, both series reflect the same commitment to genuine aluminum, fine hairline brushing, refined anodized color, and controlled surface finishing. TRULY plans to extend this craftsmanship to additional calculators and future product categories where metal materials can improve appearance, feel, and everyday usability.
